In additional to serving as an assistant professor of law and director of the Joan & Lyle Middleton Center for Children’s Rights, Professor Pattison is also the supervising attorney for the Children’s Rights Clinic. Pattison was previously in private practice in Seattle, Washington. He also served as an attorney with TeamChild in Seattle, Washington, where he had previously been awarded a Soros Justice Fellowship. Professor Pattison has written and spoken extensively in the areas of children’s justice and education law. He believes that youth in the court system are entitled to advocates who are both aggressive in protecting their rights and creative in formulating plans for their transition to adulthood.

Throughout his 23 years of private practice, Foxhoven specialized in civil and criminal litigation, juvenile law and appeals. He headed the Iowa Child Advocacy Board (where he was awarded the “Leader of the Year Award” by Governor Vilsack), and has spoken at over 200 legal seminars and conferences. Foxhoven has received numerous awards for his child advocacy efforts, including the “American Dreams Award” from Iowa Friends of Foster Children Foundation, the “Champion for Children” Award from Prevent Child Abuse Iowa, and the “Angel in Adoption” Award from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute in Washington, D.C. He has also served as a Senior Fellow with the Center for Adoption Research at the University of Massachusetts and has held numerous leadership positions in state and national child advocacy organizations. He also conducts the First Year Trial Practicum, supervises hudicial interns and teaches several courses, including “Children and the Law”.
