How did Drake Law prepare you for your career?
While at Drake I completed a Certificate in Food and Agricultural Law, which gave me the opportunity to take courses that introduced me to many of the legal issues facing the food and agriculture industry.
Additionally, Professor Neil Hamilton helped me secure two summer jobs that gave me invaluable experience—I worked one summer at a law firm in D.C. as a legislative intern and another summer as a policy consultant at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency.
I sincerely believe that Drake—the education, experiences, and network of alumni and friends of Drake—was integral in my being offered my current position. What information would you like to share with a prospective Drake Law student?
There are so many ways to be a lawyer and so many interesting areas of law if you are willing to be creative and think outside the box. You can work on policy, be in-house counsel, work at a law firm, or work for the government; my advice is to find something you love and then think big and creatively about how you can work in that field.
