Class of 2013
Honors Fellow and Attorney Advisor
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Undergraduate Institution: University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point How did your Drake Law degree prepare you for your career?
Drake Law focuses on providing students with a practical legal education, and that has helped me tremendously as a new attorney. Since leaving law school, I have discovered that substantive law classes can cover only so much material, and in several of my current practice areas, there simply is no class that could teach what I now do. However, the legal research and writing skills I learned at Drake have given me the tools to succeed in any area, because I can spot issues, find relevant law, and communicate legal options to my fellow attorneys and clients in an understandable manner. What information would you like to share with a prospective Drake Law student?
Law school is what you make of it. Drake provides its students with many ways to be involved and build experience in the legal profession. Figure out what interests you in the law, and take full advantage of the opportunities Drake offers. Getting involved will make your school years more exciting, help you meet the Drake community, which is supportive and convivial, and allow you to leave school with invaluable skills and experience. You may be surprised, as I was, at how much you enjoy your time at Drake.
