My name is Bryan Ingram and I am a student at Drake University Law School. I grew up outside of Chicago in Barrington, Illinois but I have also lived in Florida, Arizona, and California. I chose the Des Moines area because it offers the amenities of a larger city combined with the friendliness of a small town
. I decided to attend Drake Law based on the University’s involvement in the Des Moines legal community and the University’s practical approach to legal education.
Drake has a great relationship with the surrounding legal community. Almost every week there is an event that gets student in touch with attorneys, judges, and other legal professionals in the Des Moines area. Within the first few weeks of class, I was able to network with local attorneys
and learn about the variety of legal opportunities in the Des Moines area.
I also selected Drake because they take a practical approach to their curriculum
. As a first-year student, I was able to witness a full wrongful death trial at the Drake Legal Clinic, which allowed me to apply what I learned in class to real-world situations.
There is also no shortage of student activities at Drake. Within the first month of class, I participated in the C. Edwin Moore oral advocacy competition. The competition was a great opportunity to get a feel for what some lawyers do by giving me a chance to argue an appellate case in front of local attorneys
. Outside of class, I am also a member of the Drake Law Military Society and the Agricultural Law Society.
I remember how difficult it was to choose a law school and I am extremely happy with my choice to attend Drake. Drake’s practical approach to education combined with their involvement in the Des Moines legal community makes it an optimal place for anyone to begin their legal career.
