Hello! I’m Katie Shanahan, a law student at Drake University. I’m an Iowa native growing up in Monticello; however, I crossed state lines into Wisconsin for college. I earned my degree in business-administration and finance at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and was also involved in pre-law society, mediation, mock trial, national honor societies, and intramural sports.
My participation in mock trial and mediation
confirmed my interest and desire to come to law school. Drake had always been at the top of my list for prospective schools, but attending one of the admitted students days helped make my decision to move back to Iowa easier. The faculty and students were welcoming, supportive, and truly interested in getting to know me
While at Drake, I have had the opportunity to be involved with Delta Theta Phi International Law Fraternity, Drake Law Women, various fundraising and philanthropic events, and intramural sports.
Drake has an exceptional career development office
that works closely with students to assist them in their goals for internships and future employment. As a testament to that, I have already obtained a position as a law clerk
at LaMarca & Landry, P.C. which I began at the start of the spring semester.
Choosing to attend Drake Law was a wonderful decision as I felt at home
within the first week of moving to Des Moines. The students and faculty at Drake are one of a kind!
