New Applicants
Applicants to Drake Law School must submit an application form accompanied by a personal statement. Applicants must also take the LSAT and subscribe to the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS). Visit www.LSAC.org for more details. Letters of recommendation, while not required, are strongly encouraged. Drake Law School is a participant in the LSDAS Recommender Service.
The application priority deadline is April 1 of the year in which an applicant wishes to be considered for admission. Consideration for scholarship awards will be made on a funds available basis after this date. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. For this reason, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit application materials early. Because we do not evaluate an applicant's file until the Office of Admission receives all the application materials, we highly recommend that applicants submit the application and make requests for supporting documents prior to the April 1 priority deadline.
Admission decisions are generally made within 4-6 weeks after an applicant's file is complete. Late applications are considered for admission on a space-available basis; accordingly decisions on these applications may be delayed.
International Applicants
For the purpose of admission, an international student is defined as a student who is, or will be, in the United States on a non-immigrant visa. This specifically refers to the Student (F) and Exchange Visitor (J) visas.
International applicants are required to submit the following:
1. Completed law school application. Application may be found on the web site.
2. Application fee of $50 (U. S. dollars) payable to Drake University Law School. The application fee will be waived for applications submitted electronically prior to April 1.
3. Personal statement.
4. An LSDAS report – Applicants who have completed work at any foreign institution outside the U.S., its territories, and Canada must have their credentials sent to LSAC to be evaluated by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers. All services are offered only on-line, www.LSAC.org.
5. TOEFL scores, including the TWE (Test of Written English), are required for applicants whose native language is not English. An official copy of the test report must be sent by the testing service directly to LSAC. TOEFL scores will be included in the foreign credential evaluation. TOEFL is given worldwide at prescheduled times throughout the year. Information concerning testing dates and places may be obtained on-line at www.toefl.org. There is a fee for the examination. Please note: Not all TOEFL administrations include the TWE. Be sure to register for a TOEFL test date that includes the TWE.
6. Letters of recommendation are optional but strongly recommended. Letters should address an applicant's academic performance and potential. Letters of recommendation may be sent to LSAC or the Drake University Law School Office of Admission and Financial Aid.

Visiting Applicants
A law student wishing to attend Drake as a visiting student must complete an application and provide a letter from the dean of the law school at which he or she is a degree candidate certifying that the student is in good academic standing and eligible to re-enroll. A visiting student must have the permission of his or her dean to enroll in any classes offered at Drake Law School and may enroll only in those courses that have received prior approval.
Transfer Applicants
Candidates wishing to transfer from another accredited law school should follow the procedure listed for new applicants. In addition, transfer applicants must provide transcripts showing the grades of all law work attempted, a class rank and a letter from the dean of the last law school attended certifying that the student is in good academic standing and eligible to re-enroll.
Transfer applicants must also request an official copy of the LSDAS report to be sent to the admission office from the Law School Data Assembly Service. Photocopies will not be accepted. Electronic requests for reports may be made at www.lsac.org.
As a general rule, a student must rank in the upper half of the class at the previous law school attended. Credit for courses in which the student earned a grade of C or better usually will transfer, but those grades will not be calculated into the student's cumulative grade point average at Drake Law School. All transfer students accepted for admission must submit seat deposits by the dates specified in the letter of acceptance.
