Mock Trial Scholarships

Drake Law School Mock Trial and Moot Court Scholarships

Students designated as All-American Attorneys or All-American Mediators at any of the 2009-2010 American Mock Trial Association national tournaments or All-American Attorneys at the 2009-2010 American Collegiate Moot Court Association national tournament who are admitted to, and enroll full-time, at Drake University Law School in 2010 will receive a minimum scholarship award of $6,000. These scholarship awards are renewable for the second and third year of law school provided the student ranks in the top 1/3 of his or her class.

The Litigation and Dispute Resolution Certificate program was instituted to capitalize on Drake's traditional strengths of advocacy and dispute resolution.

The First-Year Trial Practicum, the only one of its kind in the nation, puts students in the courtroom during their first year. Students attend an actual state or federal court jury trial and participate in question and answer sessions with the judge, attorneys and members of the jury. Drake's Recent Achievements in Advocacy and Litigation:
  • National Moot Court Team has advanced to the Final Rounds of the National Moot Court Competition in New York City in 16 of the last 19 years.
  • National Moot Court team was a National semi-finalist in 2006, placed second in 2005, and was the 2001 National Champion.
  • National Moot Court team placed first in its region for 12 out of the past 19 years.
  • ABA National Appellate Advocacy team competed in the National Finals in 2004 and 2005.
  • ABA National Appellate Advocacy team tied for first place in the 2004 and 2005 Regional competition.
  • ATLA Mock Trial team, one of two mock trial teams at Drake, placed second in the nation at the ATLA Student Trial Advocacy Competition in 2001 and 2004.
  • National Environmental Law Moot Court team placed second in the 2003 National tournament and has advanced to the National quarter-finals in 12 of the last 14 years.
  • ABA Client Counseling Team won the 2006 Regional Competition.
  • Drake also sends teams to the Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Law Competition and the ABA Negotiations Competition as well as hosting a number of intramural events within the Law School.
