Drake law fraternity to hold annual Eat-A-Thon fundraiser

After four successful years of transforming chicken wing consumption into charitable fundraising, the Drake University Law School fraternity Delta Theta Phi will co-sponsor the fifth annual Eat-A-Thon. The event will benefit the Iowa-Central American Relief Effort (I-CARE) on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

The fundraiser will begin at 8 p.m. at Third Base sports bar in West Des Moines, 1720 25th St.

"The Eat-A-Thon continues to be highly popular and successful for I-CARE, helping us make a valuable difference in the lives of many Central Americans and Iowans," said Ben Parrot, I-CARE president.

"We hope each year that the Eat-A-Thon not only raises money for our cause, but raises non-profit awareness and introduces I-CARE and our projects to more people."

In the Eat-A-Thon, 12 Drake students and alumni eat as many chicken wings as they can in 15 minutes to try to win more than $1,000 in prizes. The winner will earn the title of "Eat-A-Thon Champion." The goal for this year is $10,000, which is achieved by donations for every chicken wing consumed by a contestant.

Donations to I-CARE are tax deductible and can be made through I-CARE's online PayPal account. I-CARE, founded by Drake Law School students in 2005, engages in charitable projects in Central America and improves the quality of life of Iowans and Central Americans through relationship building and mutually beneficial exchanges of ideas, culture and charitable goods and services.
