I-CARE and Drake Law's Delta Theta Phi  Encourage Eat-A-Thon Oct. 10

After six successful years of transforming chicken wing consumption into charitable fundraising, I-CARE and Delta Theta Phi, a fraternity of Drake University Law School students, announced today the seventh annual Eat-A-Thon will take place on Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. The event will be hosted at People’s On Court. “The Eat-A-Thon continues to be highly popular and successful for I-CARE, helping us make a valuable difference in the lives of many Central Americans and Iowans,” says Ben Parrott, I-CARE president. “We hope each year the Eat-A-Thon not only raises money for our cause, but raises nonprofit awareness and introduces I-CARE and our projects to more people.”

In the Eat-A-Thon, current and former Drake University Law School students compete to eat as many chicken wings as they can in 15 minutes, vie for nearly $1,000 in prizes, and earn the title of Eat-A-Thon Champion. I-CARE asks donors to pledge an amount of money for each chicken wing a contestant eats or a flat donation. Champions in the past have consumed more than 125 chicken wings, and the event brought in $5,000 to $10,000 in donations and pledges. With each year, the event continues to grow and promises to be even more fun, better attended, and more successful. The 2012 Eaters are being announced on the I-CARE Facebook page at www.facebook.com/IowaCare.

“The Delts are proud to be associated with such a great organization helping others out because I-Care’s principles fit within the Delts’ motto: ‘We don’t succeed until we all succeed,’” said Parker Thirnbeck, dean of Delta Theta Phi. “While the Delts help law students succeed in school, I-CARE helps others succeed in life and with the money we raise this year going to a homeless law student in Nicaragua; what could be better?”

All proceeds are donated to I-CARE, an Iowa non-profit corporation with federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Donations are tax deductible and can be made securely through I-CARE’s online PayPal account. Drake Law students founded I-CARE in 2005. I-CARE engages in charitable projects in Central America and improves the quality of life of Iowans and Central Americans through relationship building and mutually beneficial exchanges of ideas, culture, and charitable goods and services.
