Student Bar Association Sells Art to Fund Public Service Scholarships

Drake Law School’s Student Bar Association recently held their second annual “Just Art!” art auction to raise funds for Drake Law’s Public Service Endowment. The event, which was held at Dos Rios Cantina and Lounge on Court Avenue, brought numerous students and alumni together for a great cause.
Drake Law’s Public Service Endowment is utilized to provide scholarships for students who obtain an unpaid public service internship or job after their 1L or 2L year.
“I think it is important to support the public service endowment because many people come to law school with the intention of helping others, but the fact that many legal aid and non-profit entities do not pay summer staff may prohibit some students from being able to accept such a position. By giving students who wish to participate in such programs access to funds over the summer, we at Drake are actively ensuring that indigent people have access to legal services that might not otherwise be available” stated Sharon Wegner, a Drake Law 2L and the Co-Chair of the Student Bar Association’s Advancement Committee .
This year, several pieces from local artists Frank Hansen and John Philip Davis were donated by
Moberg Gallery. In addition, art was also donated by Judge Artis Reis, Judge Annette Scieszinski, alumni Leslie Behaunek, and various Drake Law students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
